2010 “Shootout” Information & Registration Form
Thank you for your interest in the 3rd Annual Three Lakes Fire Department
Radar Run “Shootout” & Airport Fly-In, an important fundraiser for our
volunteer fire department. Your participation will give us the chance to
finally build our second fire station which is dearly needed to improve
response times to distant homes and businesses.
Hopefully most of your questions will be answered here. If not, please email
info@ThreeLakesShootout.com for further
assistance.
Event Description:
The “Shootout” is an individual competition of driver & boat against the
radar gun for “Top Gun” bragging rights and the annual “Top Gun” name
(with speed) permanently inscribed & displayed on the Shootout Trophy at the
Three Lakes Fire Department.
From a standing start, registered boats will attain maximum speed over a
1,000 foot by 100 foot, buoy-marked course and have their speed recorded by
radar gun at the finish line. There will be a 300 foot “slow down zone”
following the radar course. Drivers can pass by the finish line boat on
their way back to shore to see their time immediately after their run.
For safety’s sake, the entire bay on Big Stone Lake where the event will
occur has been declared a SLOW-NO-WAKE ZONE by the Town of Three Lakes for
the day of June 26th. The event will occur adjacent to the Three
Lakes Airport and Sunset Grill Restaurant, both located on Big Stone Lake,
just 3 miles east of Three Lakes on Hwy 32.
Safety is our primary concern. On-water enforcement of safety issues will be
provided by the Three Lakes Police Marine Unit, Oneida County Marine Unit,
Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR), as well as distinctly marked on-water,
safety patrol wardens. In addition there will be a team of rescue divers
with appropriate medical (EMT) staff & ambulance adjacent to the course
during the entire event.
Event Viewing:
We have attempted to make free viewing a top priority for the public’s
benefit. There will be free parking at the site with bleachers to make
viewing easier. In addition, on-water viewing will be possible by boats
arriving on the chain of lakes, lining up & lashing together, side-by-side
along the “Shootout” course, subject to a buoy marked safety set-back zone.
By lashing together, the spectator boats are more stable, enhance viewing,
and create a great fun atmosphere for everyone. This also enhances safety
since the boats running the “chute” will also have to navigate through the
spectator boats on their way back to the starting line for subsequent runs.
Event Registration:
If you wish to participate in the “Shootout” Radar Run there are several
requirements for driver and boat alike. Please review the requirements
carefully as they will be strictly enforced. Anyone not adhering to the
requirements will not be allowed to participate. Out of the area registered
boaters can have free, overnight indoor boat storage if arranged in advance.
Call Anchor Marine (715-546-8333) to reserve your spot as space is limited.
